Botox for the Lower Face

Lower Face Botox: What It Is, Who It’s For, and How It Works

When most people think of Botox, they think of smoothing forehead lines or softening crow’s feet — but Botox is just as powerful when used in the lower third of the face, especially in expert hands. At Fresh Aesthetics in Portadown, we use advanced lower face Botox techniques to gently lift, contour, and soften without ever freezing your natural expression.

In the lower face, Botox works by relaxing specific overactive muscles that contribute to common age-related concerns — such as a downturned mouth, undefined jawline, or chin dimpling. Here’s what it can do for you:

1. Pebbled or "Orange Peel" Chin (Mentalis Treatment)

The mentalis (chin) muscle can become overactive with age, pushing upwards, shortening the face and creating a dimpled or “pebbled” chin texture. Botox gently relaxes this area to smooth the skin and restore a softer looking chin.

2. Downturned Mouth Corners (DAO Treatment)

When the depressor anguli oris (DAO) muscle pulls the corners of the mouth downward, it can create a sad or grumpy expression — even when you’re feeling great. A small amount of Botox here releases this downwards pull, therefore allowing the mouth corners to lift slightly.

3. Perioral Lines (Smoker’s/Lipstick Lines)

Fine vertical lines around the mouth — also called smoker’s lines — result from repetitive movement and collagen loss. Microdoses of Botox in this area relax this tight muscle, so softening the lines and prevent them from deepening further, without affecting your ability to speak or smile.

4. Lip Flip

A subtle, non-filler option for enhancing the upper lip. By relaxing the orbicularis oris muscle just above the lip, Botox allows more of the lip to "flip" outward when smiling, creating a fuller appearance — perfect for those who want a more visible upper lip without added volume.

5. Platysmal Bands (Neck Botox)

With age, the vertical bands in the neck (platysma muscles) can become more prominent, contributing to a “pulling down” effect on the lower face and jawline. This is sometimes called neck ‘webbing’. Injecting Botox into these bands softens their appearance and improves jawline definition — often referred to as the Nefertiti Lift.

6. Gummy Smile Correction

Although it affects the mouth, this is a common request in both upper and lower face treatment plans. When too much gum shows while smiling, Botox can relax the levator labii muscles, creating a more balanced, confident smile.
